Yesterday, we're asked to complete practical 4 and 5 during UIR lab.

The deliverables are :

Identifying the different types of Internet search facilities

and

Evaluating the effectiveness of different internet search facilities.

In class, i've learnt to list the variation of the keywords.


for my topic, the keywords would be: impact, blogging, business
keyword variation refers to replacing the keyword with another word.


for example,

Keyword: Impact.
Keyword variation: Effect, Cause, Influence


Keyword: Business.
Keyword variation: Organization, Corporation and so on..


for the practical, we're asked to search using different search facility.

i'm using Google as my search engine, MetaCrawler for the meta search engine and Yahoo Directory for subject Directory.


Evaluation:

Google provides the most relevant articles compared to the others.

Metacrawler displays results that are not so relavant and i've found out that, the more relavant results are displayed at the bottom. It's not as good as Google because users would always view the top few results first.

Yahoo Directory's terrible because it does not display relavant results. it only shows articles about blog and businesses separately.

So, to conclude, the search facility which best meet my searching needs would be Google.
it provides information that i am looking for and it's relavance are displayed in order.
